My Beautiful Dresser

I have wanted a dresser in my dining room for some time but due to the small space I had to fit one, it was difficult trying to find a small dresser. Initially I looked round a few antique shops but the dressers they had were all much too big and pricey!

My mum happened to look in a second hand charity furniture shop, which I had never considered and spotted a small antique pine dresser. By some miracle it happened to be just the right size. I would highly recommend looking in these shops as they are like an Aladdin's cave, full of interesting things for a fraction of the cost. You are also giving to charity which always makes me feel good.

The dresser needed a little TLC but this just added to it's charm. This is the bit I really enjoyed - customising the piece myself. After some sanding to remove some slight scratching and marks, I varnished it with an antique pine varnish. I kept it this colour as I personally like this look. The dresser also had some plain wooden knobs on the drawers and cupboard doors which I wanted to change.

On one of my shopping trips I thought I would take a look in Laura Ashley as they have such lovely things in their shops. I came across some very pretty gold and white butterfly door knobs and as I love butterflies I thought these would look perfect. A ceramic egg storage hen also caught my eye! These turned out to both be bargains too as they were in the sale.

I am really pleased with the overall look. That is the beauty of up-cycling a piece of furniture, you can make it truly yours and know that no one else has another exactly like it. I also decided to finish mine off with some Cath Kidston fabric bunting to complete the Vintage dresser look. The fun part is decorating your dresser with all the things you love and making it look pretty x
